'Saturday Night with Michael Smith' is a one-hour special that examines what it takes to be a world-class chef by looking at the life of Chef Michael Smith.

Viewers of the popular television series 'The Inn Chef' are mad about Chef Michael Smith.  They love his recipes, watching him converse with his suppliers, and following his travels throughout the Maritimes. Michael Smith gives them insight and inspiration to prepare new and innovation dishes.

What troubles them however is that the ‘The Inn Chef’ is a carefully orchestrated and edited show. How does Michael Smith run one of Canada’s most progressive restaurants ‘Maple’? ‘Saturday Night with Michael Smith’ is an opportunity for his fans, and people who have never met him, to gain insight into the real life of a Chef, his employees and his restaurant.

In this special, the audience will follow Chef Michael and his 'Team Cuisine' from the moment he wakes up, through to the late hours of Saturday night - the busiest night of the week. On a typical Saturday Michael dives headlong into a hurricane of activity; trips to the market, adventures at sea, meetings, wine tasting, cell phone calls, emergencies and, of course, wining and dining.

'Saturday Night' will feature some of the fine and not so fine moments of fine dining. Like the couple who are celebrating their 30th anniversary and are so pleased with their evening, they ask Chef Michael to join them for a cognac.  Then there’s a quarrel in the kitchen. A love affair between two members of the team has turned sour and now the crème brulè is in jeopardy.

‘Saturday Night’ shows the predictable and sometimes painstaking labour that goes into running a restaurant. This special also captures those unanticipated moments when quick thinking and fast fingers are essential ingredients.  Most of all 'Saturday Night' is an examination of Michael Smith and what it takes to be a chef extraordinaire.
